big can
waves be?
Storm
waves, driven
by high winds, often rise 12 metres or more in an open sea. The highest
sea wave seen from a ship and officially recorded in 1933 was 34
metres high. The biggest wave measured by instruments was 26 metres
high in 1872 in the North Atlantic. Such waves are rare.
